Parte del universo de viajar es el mundo del acampar, porque este último es una manera diferente de viajar: una que no necesita infraestructura hotelera, agencias de viaje, aeropuertos o terminales de transporte y trámites, pero sí necesita un espíritu aventurero muy fuerte.
Ahora, representando este espíritu aventurero está mi invitada para esta publicación: la Casa Rodante / VR Fleetwood Bounder 31 KB (31 ft) a Gasolina de 1986, un Vehículo Recreacional (VR) de Tamaño Completo Clase A Tipo Bus, hecho por Fleetwood RV (anteriormente conocida como Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc.), parte del REV Group, Inc., cuya fábrica para productos Fleetwood está localizada en Decatur, Indiana.
Esta Bounder marcó la introdución de esta línea de modelos, cuando Fleetwood era todavía una empresa independiente en el segmento de vehículos recreacionales (RV) y en ese momento estaba en el tope de la lista de casas rodantes, ofreciendo varias opciones personalizadas de configuración interior.
Siendo una Casa Rodante Clase A Tipo Bus, este vehículo es cualquier cosa menos diminuto o rápido o aerodinámico o eficiente en el consumo de combustible o el epítome del diseño exterior, pero eso no es lo que alguien interesado en esta clase de productos está buscando, obviamente.
Sin embargo, si estás buscando una casa sobre ruedas (literalmente) con la mayoría de comodidades que encuentras en la vida moderna citadina, para llevar tu espíritu aventurero fuera de la red, con relativa independencia, vehículos recreacionales como la Bounder son una escogencia sensata y eso es, entre otras consideraciones, lo que hace estos vehículos algo notable…
Continuando con la historia de GreenLight, que comencé aquí, aquí y aquí, tenemos que regresar unos pocos años antes de 2002, cuando la compañía fue fundada, porque Kevin Davey (el fundador) fue un ex-ejecutivo de licenciamiento SMI (Servicios Mediáticos de Internet, IMS por sus siglas en inglés) y en realidad GreenLight fue un “retoño” de un par de empresas de artículos deportivos que Davey administró: Davey Sports Management Inc. y Radius Group Inc…
Es importante señalar este hecho, porque ayuda a entender el rasgo principal de este desarrollador de réplicas de vehículos en diecast auténticas, figuras a escala y otros productos relacionados con autos: su foco en el licenciamiento y desde luego, las empresas más reconocidas en este segmento tienen que ver también directa o indirectamente con licenciamiento, pero en el caso de GreenLight, fue un factor clave incluso antes de su creación.
Esto explica, por ejemplo, porqué algunos de los primeros productos que GreenLight lanzó fueron Coches Indy (recuerda que fue un “retoño” de un par de empresas de artículos deportivos), más o menos como otros jugadores en este mercado, solo que estos últimos hicieron modelos basados en Carreras Stock Car, como: Racing Champions, Action Racing Collectables (actualmente Lionel Racing), Revell, Winner’s Circle o Team Caliber.
También explica porqué esta compañía sigue creciendo en un segmento de mercado donde muchos de sus pares han tenido que cerrar sus puertas o encarar la adquicisión por parte de empresas más grandes: acuerdos de licencia ventajosos han tenido un rol esencial en la sostenibilidad y éxito de GreenLight Collectibles…
Pero la historia de esta marca y mis impresiones sobre ella no han terminado, en publicaciones futuras profundizaré un poquitín más, porque estoy completamente consciente que esta afición es esencialmente acerca del conocimiento, no simplemente acerca de comprar cosas aquí y allá, luego como es habitual, ahora enfoquémonos en mi invitada…
Conseguí esta Fleetwood Bounder de 1986 en el mercado secundario,con la ayuda de un amigo mío, colega coleccionista e importador / vendedor privado, hace más o menos 6 años.
Pertenece a la Serie First Cut Hobby Exclusive de 2015, una serie de muy corta duración lanzada entre 2015 y 2016, con solo 9 ejemplos hasta donde sé, la mayoría de ellos Sets de 2 Carros, excepto el que estoy presentando esta vez: Volkswagen Beetle Split Window de 1938, Volkswagen Tipo 2 Bus de 1968, Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS de 1981 -1984, Jeep Wrangler de 1987, Chevrolet Silverado LTZ Z71 de 2014, Ford F-150 XLT de 2015, Nissan GT-R (R35) de 2014, Top Fuel Altered Dragster y la Fleetwood Bounder.
Este modelo a escala de casa rodante ofrece carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico negro, si bien preferiría chasis en diecast, entiendo también que en este punto de precio la dosis de diecast es más que decente y hay un excelente nivel de detalle a todo alrededor.
Fiel a la idea detrás de esta serie, no hay trabajo de pintura, sino solo la superficie en diecast cubierta con una resina o laca transparente, con el fin de mostrar el molde desnudo y el trabajo intrincado en sus detalles dentro de la escala, lo cual no siempre es visible claramente una vez que la pintura y los tampos y/o calcomanías son aplicados.
El modelo presenta varios insertos plásticos para los limpia-parabrisas, espejos retrovisores laterales, unidades de aire acondicionado frontal y trasera, bómperes frontal y trasero, tubería para el toldo principal al lado del pasajero y la escalera de cola.
Tiene ventanas ahumadas y solo para la cabina fueron incluidos interiores, el resto fue omitido y de nuevo, dentro del punto de precio es algo razonable: interiores completos harían deseable una característica de apertura para apreciarlos y esto duplicaría o triplicaría fácilmente el precio inicial, debido a los costos adicionales del producción.
Las ruedas multiparte presentan diseño de rimes 5 Slots en negro y llantas en caucho labradas, bastante realista y apropiado para esta clase de vehículo, pero en conjunto el tamaño es simplemente demasiado grande y el modelo parece extrañamente personalizado; la Serie First Cut incluye una base de exhibición bonita en plástico negro, con cuero sintético cosido y una cubierta transparente, pero esta última venía con una fisura en la parte superior, finalmente, este modelo fue hecho en China…

Traveling is precisely a concrete way to escape from routine, it’s so important for us as human beings, that there is a whole industry and an economic segment around this aspect of our life, but beyond the economic factor involved, we really need a breathing space, a quiet and relaxing time to ponder and have fun, something different to do…
Part of the universe of traveling is the world of camping, because the latter is a different way of traveling: one that doesn’t need hotel infrastructure, travel agencies, airports or transport terminals and procedures, but it do need a very strong adventurous spirit.
Now, representing this adventurous spirit is my guest for this publication: the 1986 Fleetwood Bounder 31 KB (31 ft) Gasoline RV / Motorhome, a Full Size Recreational Vehicle (RV) Class A Type Bus, made by Fleetwood RV (previously known as Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc.), part of the REV Group, Inc., whose factory for Fleetwood products is located in Decatur, Indiana.
This Bounder marked the introduction of this line of models, when Fleetwood was still an independent company in the segment of recreational vehicles (RV) and at that moment it was at the top of its list of motorhomes, offering several custom options for the interior configuration.
Being a Class A Type Bus Motorhome, this vehicle is anything but tiny or fast or streamlined or fuel efficient or the epitome of exterior design, but that’s not what someone interested in this kind of product is looking for, obviously.
However, if you’re looking for a house on wheels (literally) with most of the amenities you find in the modern city life, to take your adventurous spirit to places out of the grid, with relative independence, recreational vehicles like the Bounder are a sensible choice and that’s among other considerations, what makes these vehicles something remarkable…

It’s important to pointing-out this fact, because it helps to understand the main trait of this developer of authentic diecast vehicle replicas, scale figures and other automotive-related products: its focus on licensing and of course, the most recognized companies in this segment have to do with licensing directly or indirectly too, but in the case of GreenLight, it was a key factor even before its creation.
It explains for instance, why some of the first products GreenLight released were Indy Cars (remember it was a “sprout” of a pair of sporting-goods companies), pretty much like other players in that market, only that the latter made models based on Stock Car Racing, like: Racing Champions, Action Racing Collectables (currently Lionel Racing), Revell, Winner’s Circle or Team Caliber.
It also explains why this company keeps growing in a market segment where many of its peers have had to close their doors or face the acquisition by larger companies: advantageous licensing deals have had an essential role in the sustainability and success of GreenLight Collectibles…
But the history of this brand and my impressions about it are not over, in future publications I will deepen a bit more, because I’m fully aware this hobby is essentially about knowledge, not just about buying stuff here and there so, as usual, now let’s focus on my guest…
I got this 1986 Fleetwood Bounder in the secondary market, with the help of a friend of mine, fellow collector and importer / private seller, pretty much 6 years ago.
It belongs to the 2015 First Cut Series Hobby Exclusive, a very short lived series released between 2015 and 2016, with only 9 examples as far as I know, most of them 2-Cars Sets, except the one I’m featuring this time: 1938 Volkswagen Beetle Split Window, 1968 Volkswagen Type 2 Bus, 1981 -1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, 1987 Jeep Wrangler, 2014 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ Z71, 2015 Ford F-150 XLT, 2014 Nissan GT-R (R35), Top Fuel Altered Dragster and the Fleetwood Bounder.
This motorhome scale model offers diecast body and black plastic chassis, while I would prefer a diecast chassis, I understand as well that at this price point the diecast dose is more than decent and there is an excellent level of detail all around.
Faithful to the idea behind this series, there is no paint job, but just the diecast surface covered with a clear resin or lacquer, in order to show the bare mold and the intricate work on its details within the scale, which is not always clearly visible once the paint and tampos and/or decals are applied.
The model features several plastic inserts for the windshield wipers, side rearview mirrors, front and rear air conditioning units, front and rear bumpers, tubing for the main awning on the passenger side and the tail ladder.
It has smoked windows and only for the cabin were included interiors, the rest was omitted and again, within the price point is something reasonable: complete interiors would make desirable an opening feature to appreciate them and it would easily duplicate or triple the asking price, due to additional production costs.
The multipart wheels feature 5 Slots rims design in black and styled rubber tires, quite realistic and appropriate for this kind of vehicle, but the size as a whole is just too big and the model looks oddly customized; the First Cut Series includes a nice display base in black plastic, with stitched synthetic leather and a clear cover, but the latter came with a crack on top, finally, this model was made in China…
