Las tierras nórdicas de Europa, anteriormente conocidas como Escandinavia, las cuales en el sentido más amplio incluyen lo que actualmente está identificado como: Dinamarca, Noruega, Suecia, Finlandia, Islandia, las Islas de Åland, Faroe, Svalbard, Jan Mayen y Groenlandia, son famosas a nivel mundial mayormente por causa de los Vikingos, un término moderno usado para los habitantes de ese relativamente vasto territorio en los tiempos antiguos…
Sin embargo, en tiempos recientes, estas tierras y los países pertenecientes a esta región del mundo son conocidos por causa sus altos estándares de vida, en términos de educación, salud, economía, cultura, etc., precisamente, debido a mi invitado para esta publicación, tengo que hablar un poquitín sobre Suecia…
Este país, gobernado como una monarquía constitucional y una democracia parlamentaria, solía ser un lugar grandioso y tranquilo para vivir, pero con el comienzo de este nuevo siglo, Suecia se ha convertido en un lugar donde los crímenes relacionados con drogas, violaciones, violencia armada, ataques terroristas, extorsión, etc., se han incrementado a un ritmo alarmante (síntomas de corrupción y una crisis social en progreso)…
No puedo evitar sentir que la situación en Suecia tiene algunos puntos en común con la situación en mi país, aunque por diferentes razones y tengo claridad en esto: Colombia (Suramérica), mi patria, debería ser un sitio maravilloso y próspero para vivir, pero no lo es…
Mientras en Suecia la inmigración masiva, con controles laxos ha tenido un rol importante en los problemas ya mencionados (a pesar de la renuencia del gobierno para admitirlo), en mi patria, Colombia, la situación de crisis social es el resultado de más de un siglo de corrupción, explotación y violencia sistemática del gobierno (últimamente una mafia narco-paramilitar), sector bancario, grandes empresarios privados y compañías multinacionales (algunos ejecutan, mientras otros financian y dan las órdenes, pero todos son parte del mismo círculo vicioso despreciable)…
Con todo, justo como en mi patria hay muchas cosas positivas para resaltar y gente grandiosa, Suecia tiene gente fabulosa y una industria / comercio floreciente, con marcas ampliamente reconocidas como: Electrolux, IKEA, H&M, Skanska, Spotify, Vattenfall, Volvo y Scania, entre otras.
Mi invitado para esta publicación: El Tracto Camión / Cabezote Tractomula Scania Serie R R470 Topline Cabina de Camarote Doble 4×2 (Eje Trasero Simple) CSM, un Tracto Camión de Trabajo Pesado Clase 8, es uno de los muchos productos de este proveedor líder mundial de soluciones en transporte.
Scania AB, una compañía sueca con casa matriz en Södertälje y formada en 1911, con la fusión de Vabis y Maskinfabriks-aktiebolaget Scania, es parte actualmente de los activos del Grupo Volkswagen y recibió su nombre de la provincia de Scania (Skåne en sueco), cuyo nombre significa más o menos peligro o daño.
Lo que es más interesante para mí acerca de mi invitado, es que Scania tiene representación aquí en mi patria así que puedo ver algunos de sus productos en persona, particularmente para los segmentos de trabajo mediano y pesado, incluyendo buses y camiones; prácticamente todas la líneas son ofrecidas (algunas bajo pedido), como las Series L, P, G, R, S, XT y V8, con concesionarios en Barranquilla y Neiva…
Cuando vez una marca en el empaque de cualquier coleccionable, tiendes a asumir que esta marca es responsable del diseño y desarrollo, fabricación y distribución de ese producto, parece una suposición sensata, pero una vez que llegas a conocer un poquitín más en profundidad la industria alrededor de los coleccionables, también te das cuenta que ese no es siempre el caso…
De hecho, en un mundo donde la tercerización se ha convertido en una de las tendencias más marcadas en la industria en conjunto, se está haciendo cada vez más difícil saber si una marca particular maneja todos los tres roles ya mencionados o solo uno dos de ellos…
Por ejemplo, solía pensar que Malibu International Ltd., una compañía con casa matriz en Hong Kong y representación en San Leandro, CA 94577 (EEUUA), fundada en 2003 y aparentemente fuera del negocio desde 2008, parte del auge de marcas de modelos a escala de vehículos en diecast durante la primera mitad de los 00s, fue responsable de diseñar, desarrollar, fabricar y distribuir sus productos…
Bueno, estaba equivocado y no temo admitirlo: estoy completamente consciente que no sé todo lo que se puede conocer de esta afición, pero también que estoy abierto a aprender luego, si tengo que cambiar mi opinión sobre cierto tema, por causa de la nueva información que he reunido, lo haré.
Después de todo, lo que separa meros compradores de coleccionistas es el CONOCIMIENTO y es este último factor lo que hace esta afición algo significativo, interesante, disfrutable y relevante mucho más allá de un proceso de comprar y acumular cosas…
Malibu International Ltd., era un distribuidor de modelos en diecast, entonces la fabricación de seguro fue llevada a cabo por otras compañías de China continental; acerca del diseño y desarrollo, no hay información confiable disponible, así que supongo que permanecerá como un misterio por ahora.
Mi invitado para esta reseña fue distribuido por esta empresa y lo conseguí a través del mercado secundario, con la ayuda de un colega coleccionista y ex importador / vendedor privado, hace más o menos 4 años; sin embargo, recuerdo que modelos distribuidos por Malibu International Ltd., estuvieron disponibles en ciertas tiendas de juguetes y coleccionables de mi ciudad natal, solo que cuando los vi por primera vez, no estaba interesado en el coleccionismo aún.
Hubo al menos otra variación de este modelo y hasta donde sé, estos productos en escala 1:87 fueron fabricados (eventualmente diseñados y desarrollados, aunque no es seguro) por High Speed, otra compañía con sede en Hong Kong.
En la actualidad los productos distribuidos por Malibu International Ltd., no están disponibles fácilmente, al menos no a precios razonables, pero estos productos fueron baratos en su apogeo y su calidad general fue mucho más allá de la que marcas más populares, como Hot Wheels o Matchbox estaban ofreciendo en la misma época y nivel de precio.
Este modelo pertenece a la Serie Model Collection de 2008 (?), una línea de la categoría De Lujo, no pude encontrar tampoco información confiable sobre la fecha de lanzamiento real y el empaque (caja) no incluye un copyright, que usualmente te da un indicio sobre esto; la caja, por cierto, estaba en mal estado, pero ya que no colecciono empaques, no me importa.
El modelo tiene carrocería en diecast y chasis en plástico gris oscuro, con un nivel de detalle y realismo excelente, el trabajo de pintura fue hecho en una combinación de azul metalizado y blanco con acabado brillante.
Lo que encuentro curioso es que el blanco fue aplicado con aerógrafo o una herramienta similar, no fue tampografiado, lo cual no es un proceso automatizado, con todo el precio inicial era muy asequible, ¡eso es loable!, especialmente comparado con la mezquindad de otras marcas y fue complementado por una limpia franja amarilla y las luces frontales en plateado, hechas con tampos.
El modelo tiene orificios para espejos retrovisores laterales, pero no están incluidos, pensé que era un problema solo en mi artículo, pero otros modelos en esa línea carecían de estas partes; las ventanas son trasparentes, los interiores en gris oscuro ofrecen un muy buen nivel de detalle y hay un inserto plástico para la parrilla frontal agradablemente moldeada.
Las ruedas son multiparte, presentando un diseño de rimes realista 10 Holes Hub Piloted (10 Orificios de Cubo con Bujes) en cromado, llantas en caucho sintético labradas, incluye una base de exhibición en gris oscuro, con tampos en blanco, rojo y negro, cubierta acrílica transparente (la mía venía con varias fisuras), finalmente, fue hecho en China…

This country, governed as a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy, used to be a great and peaceful place to live, but with the beginning of this new century, Sweden has becoming a place were crimes related with drugs, rapes, gun violence, terrorist attacks, extortion, etc., have increased at an alarming pace (symptoms of corruption and a social crisis in progress)…
I can’t help but feeling that the situation in Sweden has some points in common with the situation in my country, although for different reasons and I have clarity on this: Colombia (South America), my homeland, should be a wonderful and thriving place to live, but it’s not…
While in Sweden mass immigration, with lax controls has had an important role in the issues already mentioned (despite the government reluctance to admit it), in my homeland, Colombia, the social crisis situation is the result of more than a century of systematic corruption, exploitation and violence from the government (lately a narco-paramilitary mafia), banking sector, large private entrepreneurs and multinational companies (some execute, while others finance and give orders, but all are part of the same despicable vicious circle)…
Yet, just like in my homeland there are many positive things to highlight and great people, Sweden has great people and a flourishing industry / commerce, with brands widely recognized like: Electrolux, IKEA, H&M, Skanska, Spotify, Vattenfall, Volvo and Scania, among others.
My guest for this publication: the 2005 Scania R Series R470 Topline Twinsleeper Cab 4×2 (Single Rear Axle) COE Tractor Head / Semi Truck, a Heavy Duty Class 8 Tractor Truck, is one of the many products of this world-leading provider of transport solutions.

When you see a brand on the packaging of any collectible, you tend to assume that this brand is the responsible for the design and development, manufacturing and distribution of that product, it seems a sensible assumption, but once you get to know a bit more in depth the industry around collectibles, you also become aware that that’s not always the case…
In fact, in a world where outsourcing has becoming one of the most marked trends in the industry as a whole, it’s getting increasingly difficult to know if a particular brand handles all the three roles already mentioned or just one or two of them…
For instance, I used to think that Malibu International Ltd., a company headquartered in Hong Kong and representation in San Leandro, CA 94577 (USA), founded in 2003 and apparently out of business since 2008, part of the boom of brands of diecast scale models of vehicles during the first half of the 00s, was responsible for designing, developing, manufacturing and distributing its products…
Well, I was wrong and I’m not afraid to admit it: I’m fully aware that I don’t know everything you could know about this hobby, but also that I’m always open to learn so, if I have to change my mind about a certain topic, because of the new information I have gathered, I will do.
After all, what separates mere buyers from collectors is KNOWLEDGE and it’s the latter factor what makes this hobby something meaningful, interesting, enjoyable and relevant way beyond a simple stuff purchasing and accumulation process…
Malibu International Ltd., was a distributor of diecast models, then manufacturing for sure was carried out by other companies from Mainland China; about design and development, there is no reliable information available, so I guess it will remain a mystery by now.
My guest for this review was distributed by this company and I got it through the secondary market, with the help of a fellow collector and former importer / private seller, pretty much 4 years ago; however, I remember that models distributed by Malibu International Ltd., were available in certain toys and collectibles stores of my hometown, only that when I first saw them, I was not interested in collectionism yet.
There was at least another variation of this model and as far as I know, these products in 1:87 scale were manufactured (eventually designed and developed too, albeit is not certain) by High Speed, another Hong Kong based company.
Currently, the products distributed by Malibu International Ltd., are not so readily available, at least not at reasonable prices, but these products were inexpensive in their heyday and their overall quality was way beyond what more popular brands, like Hot Wheels or Matchbox were offering at the same time and price level.
This model belongs to the 2008 (?) Model Collection Series, a line from the Deluxe category, I couldn’t find either reliable information about the actual release date and the packaging (box) doesn’t include a copyright, that usually gives a you a hint about it; the box, by the way, was in a bad shape, but since I don’t collect packages, I don’t mind.
The model has diecast body and dark gray plastic chassis, with an excellent level of detail and realism, the paint job was made in a combination of metallic blue and white with glossy finishing.
What I find curious is that the white was applied with airbrush or a similar tool, it was not tampoed, which is not an automated process, yet the asking price was very affordable, that’s laudable!, specially compared with the petty-mindedness of other brands and it was complemented by clean yellow stripe and the front lights in silver, made with tampos.
The model has holes for side rearview mirrors, but they were not included, I thought it was an issue only in my item, but other models in that line lacked of these parts; the windows are clear, the interiors in dark gray offer a very good level of detail and there is a plastic insert for the front grille nicely molded.
The wheels are multipart, featuring a realistic 10 Holes Hub Piloted rims desing in chrome, styled synthetic rubber tires, it includes a display base in dark gray, with tampos in white, red and black, clear acrylic cover (mine came with several cracks), finally, it was made in China…
